David Harbour says friends told him not to take Hellboy role

February 1, 2018 by Samuel Brace

David Harbour has revealed that friends of his tried to convince him not to take on the role of Hellboy.

Harbour is looking forward to appearing in the rebooted Hellboy movie under the direction of Neil Marshall but the Stranger Things star apparently has some “prominent nerd” friends that didn’t think it was such a good idea.

The film will see Harbour take up the role after Ron Perlman portrayed the character twice in 2004 and 2008. Speaking with Hollywood Reporter, Harbour recalled the advice he received:

“I was approached by some very prominent nerds whom I know very well, and I respect their opinions because they’re friends of mine, who were like, ‘Dude, step away from the Hellboy. Step away,’” Harbour recalled.

The casting decision was quite polarised upon announcement with many fans desiring one more film to complete the Perlman/del Toro trilogy. The commotion and ‘advice’ obviously didn’t dissuade Harbour from the taking the part, however.

What do you think? Do you think it was a wise move by the actor? Will it be a good decision for the franchise to have Harbour on board?
