Disney CEO shares details about the new Benioff/Weiss series of Star Wars films

February 7, 2018 by Samuel Brace

Disney Chairman and CEO Robert Iger has shared a few extra details regarding the recently announced series of Star Wars films from the creators of Game of Thrones.

It was announced yesterday that David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, the creators of HBO’s Game of Thrones, are going to be writing and producing a brand new series of Star Wars films.

Lucasfilm didn’t offer much more detail than this regarding the movies, just that Benioff and Weiss will get started once they are done with the final season of Game of Thrones which airs in 2019.

However, Disney chief Robert Iger mentioned on an investor call (via Clayton Sandell) some info about the setting of the films and the length of the seires.

Iger said that Benioff and Weis were interested in “creating a series of films that are Star Wars based, and we’ve actually been talking to them for a long time.”

Iger went on to say that two duo have “an idea” about the number of films they want to make and that “They’re focused on a point in time in the Star Wars mythology.”

While this doesn’t reveal a whole lot, it’s interesting to note that A) the number of films isn’t seemingly set in stone, and B) that Benioff and Weiss know, roughly, what area of the mythology they want to focus on.
