Bryan Fuller no longer part of Apple’s Amazing Stories

February 8, 2018 by Ricky Church

A few months ago Apple announced its intention to develop scripted series with one of the first being a reboot of Amazing Stories with Hannibal showrunner Bryan Fuller at the helm. While they had yet to fully begin development on the series, The Hollywood Reporter has revealed Fuller has left the project over creative differences with Apple.

Fuller has been attached to the Amazing Stories reboot since it was over at NBC in October 2015. The original series ran for two seasons from 1985 – 1987 with Steven Speilberg creating the anthology sci-fi. The drama reboot moved to Apple last year with Spielberg once again boarding the project along with Amblin Television’s Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank and Bones creator Hart Hanson.

Fuller’s departure is said to be an amicable one with the cause being Fuller’s desire to make Amazing Stories more in the vein of Black Mirror while Apple wanted more family-friendly stories for the reboot. THR later reported that Hanson was also leaving the series while Apple searches for a new showrunner for Amazing Stories.

This news comes only a couple months after Starz announced Fuller and Michael Green would no longer be part of American Gods after showrunning the first season. Instead, Jesse Alexander, who has worked with Fuller on Hannibal and Star Trek: Discovery (which Fuller was also set to showrun before departing that series) will work with American Gods author Neil Gaiman on the second season.

While Fuller has left this series, it was recently announced he will be joining Anne and Christopher Rice’s The Vampire Chronicles television series. Apple, meanwhile, is also working on other scripted series including a morning show comedy starring Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston, a new sci-fi series from Battlestar Galactica‘s Ron Moore about the space race and a comedy starring Kristen Wiig.
