Masters of the Universe loses its director as David S. Goyer departs

February 9, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Just when it seems that the long-gestating Masters of the Universe movie was finally starting to move forward, the project has now hit a stumbling block with the news that David S. Goyer has exited the director’s chair.

Goyer handed a draft of the script in last year, which impressed Sony Pictures enough to offer him to direct. However, according to Variety, Goyer’s has scheduling conflicts due to his commitment to Foundation, a miniseries adaptation of Isaac Asimov’s book series, although he will apparently remain involved as both screenwriter and executive producer.

Goyer is the second director to exit the project after G.I. Joe: Retaliation helmer Jon M. Chu. The project was apparently looking to begin shooting this April ahead of a release in December 2019. It remains to be seen whether this will be impacted by the directorial switch-up, although Sony will need to move fast to find a replacement if it does hope to stick to that schedule.
