Denzel Washington’s Equalizer 2 will arrive sooner than expected

February 14, 2018 by Matt Rodgers

Sony Pictures has announced that the sequel to Denzel Washington in a DIY store action flick, The Equalizer 2, will be arriving in US cinemas two weeks earlier than its intended August 3rd release date. The follow-up to the $192 million grossing film will now be in cinemas on July 20th. The UK release date will remain August 17th.

The decision appears to be the perfect piece of counter-programming, with Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again also opening on that weekend.

The Equalizer 2 will reunite director Antoine Fuqua, screenwriter Richard Wenk and star Denzel Washington, who is once again portraying retired black ops agent Robert McCall, played by Edward Woodward in the original TV series. Melissa Leo and Bill Pullman return to portray McCall’s friends and former CIA agents Susan and Brian Plummer, alongside Pedro Pascal (Narcos), and Ashton Sanders (Moonlight).
