The Karate Kid saga continues in first trailer for Cobra Kai

February 17, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Back in August of last year it was announced that Ralph Macchio and William Zabka would be reprising their roles as Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence for a digital series serving as a sequel to 1984’s The Karate Kid, as the two former enemies pick up their rivalry some thirty years after their showdown at the All-Valley Karate Tournament.

Well, we now have a look at the first teaser for the series, titled Cobra Kai, which is written and executive produced by  Josh Heald (Hot Tub Time Machine), Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg (Harold and Kumar). Check it out here…

The series sees Daniel as a proud owner of the No. 1 car dealership in the Valley, while Johnny has fallen on hard times and is now a heavy drinking, short-fused antihero, doing odd jobs to make ends meet. However, their rivalry is reignited when they re-enter each other’s lives, which drives Johnny to rediscover his Cobra Kai roots and reopen the infamous karate dojo.

Cobra Kai is set to air on YouTube Red later this year, and also stars Courtney Henggeler (Mom) as Amanda, Daniel’s wife and business partner, Mary Mouser (Freakish) as Samantha, Daniel and Amanda’sa daughter, Xolo Maridueña (Parenthood) as Miguel Diaz, a boy struggling with bullies who joins the Cobra Kai dojo, Tanner Buchanan (Designated Survivor) as Johnny’s son Robby Keene, and Ed Asner (Elf) as Johnny’s stepfather Sid Weinberg.
