As we’ve seen from the trailers and recent promotional material for Solo: A Star Wars Story, the iconic Millennium Falcon is receiving a makeover for its appearance in May’s Anthology movie, and not just on the exterior with its fancy blue paint job and overhauled bow.
As you can see in the images in this post, the interior is looking rather shiny and brand new, implying that Han and Chewie must have been living like utter pigs in the years between the solo film and A New Hope. Now, while that may be the case, it seems its not the full story.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, screenwriter Jon Kasdan has explained why they opted for the changes, stating that:
“Where Han gave it a certain shabby coolness and a dinged up quality that reflected where he was at that point in his life, this Falcon reflects its owner very clearly in its shape and aesthetic and his needs, even if those needs be a little more space to entertain…One of the things Larry and I had talked about was the Falcon should always reflect the personality of its captain.”
Ehrenreich went on to explain a practical reason for its dingy appearance once it comes into Han’s possession: “It’s safer in the galaxy to fly something that looks like a piece of junk. People underestimate you — especially if you’re up to no good. Kinda like how you’re more likely to get pulled over if you’re driving a Lamborghini.”

It is set for release on May 25th 2018.
