Batgirl movie reportedly no longer a priority at Warner Bros.

March 1, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Last week Joss Whedon announced that he’s exited the director’s chair on Warner Bros.’ planned DC movie Batgirl after failing to develop a story for the Barbara Gordon solo film, and it appears that the studio is not in any hurry to replace him.

As we all know, the DCEU is in a state of flux at the moment, with Warner Bros. appointing Walter Hamada as the new head of DC Films and seemingly reviewing its plans following the disappointing reception to Justice League.

According to The Wrap, the studio now intends on focussing on its big players such as Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman and The Flash (and possibly Green Lantern), while the likes of the Batgirl, Nightwing, Deathstroke and Lobo movies will take a back seat for the time being.

So far, all we know about the DCEU is that Aquaman will be released this coming December, with Shazam! and Wonder Woman 2 following in 2018 and slated to start shooting this summer. If reports are to be believed, Suicide Squad 2 will also begin production later this year, as will the non-DCEU Joker origin movie.

Let us know in the comments below if you think that it is a wise move for Warner Bros. to focus on its core Justice League characters, or if you’d like to see the DCEU branching out further…
