While DC fans can barely contain their excitement for the impending release of Man of Steel, anticipation is also growing as to the long-awaited announcement from Warner Bros. about the future of its roster of superheroes. Over the past few months we’ve heard plenty of rumours suggesting that the studio will look to channel the success of Marvel’s The Avengers with a Justice League feature, or bring DC’s two biggest heroes together for a World’s Finest movie, but as yet WB has been keeping its cards close to its chest. All signs point towards July’s San Diego Comic-Con for an official announcement, but in the meantime Man of Steel screenwriter David S. Goyer and producer Charles Roven have offered a few thoughts about the future of Warner’s DC franchise during promotional interviews for the upcoming Superman reboot.
“I don’t know honestly, I go back and forth,” said Goyer when asked by Collider if he’d be interested in working on Justice League. “I mean, I think that on Batman and Superman, [Christopher Nolan] has taken a different approach. I love the Marvel films and they’re really fun, but he’s definitely taken a different approach so far, which is that each of these movies is its own cohesive universe and at least with Batman it seems to have worked out. So, I don’t know. I’m not sure. I think it would depend with who. This has been a dream experience, so it’s hard to imagine it getting better than this, maybe it could be.”
While Goyer seems unsure about a cohesive DC universe, producer Charles Roven seemed much more open to the prospect when chatting with SFX: “I think you can go anywhere beyond this film that the mind can take you, and certainly we’ve been reading online all of the various possibilities being laid out there by both fan sites and fans. Our goal has been to focus on Man of Steel and to get it out there for old fans and new fans, and we think it’s a film that the whole family can go and enjoy. But we really want to focus on making this the best movie it can be, and then who knows what can happen.”
So, although we’re no further forward after that, at least we have Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel to look forward to in just two weeks from now…
