David Oyelowo would consider playing James Bond

March 18, 2018 by Gary Collinson

With Daniel Craig set to make his final outing as 007 in next year’s Bond 25 before retiring his license to kill, we’ll soon be inundated with speculation as to who’ll become the next actor to take on the iconic role of Ian Fleming’s super spy.

Before Craig’s participation in Bond 25 was confirmed, a host of names were brought up as potential successors, with producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson making it known that it is entirely possible we could see a black or even female Bond in future instalments (Idris Elba was said to be the number one choice of former Sony chief Amy Pascal).

One black actor who already has experience in the role, having voiced 007 in the Trigger Mortis audiobook, is Selma star David Oyelowo, and during a Reddit AMA, Oyelowo has admitted that he’d consider the part if it was offered to him.

“Yes, I would consider it, but that doesn’t mean I would do it,” said Oyelowo. “I’m an actor who loves playing lots of different kinds of roles, and sometimes when you play such an iconic role, that can be a more challenging thing to do.”

Bond 25 is set for release in November 2019, and it would seem highly unlikely that we’ll hear who’ll be succeeding Daniel Craig before then (expect plenty of rumours though). In the meantime, let us know if you think Oyelowo would be a good fit, or who you’d like to see taking on the role of 007 next.
