Zombie thriller Train to Busan is getting a VR adaptation

March 24, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Director Yeon Sang-ho’s acclaimed South Korean zombie thriller Train to Busan is set to receive the VR treatment, Variety has revealed.

According to the site, Singapore’s Vividthree Productions has picked up the rights from Contents Panda to deliver a piece of location-based virtual reality entertainment, as well as a VR video game.

“This is one of those cases which show how one well-made film has the scalability to be developed into multiple forms,” said Vincent Kim, president of Contents Panda.

“We believed in the possibilities because Train to Busan, a film that has mesmerized audiences in Asia and beyond, deserves to be adapted into a multisensory format,” added Charles Yeo, CEO of Vividthree. “That would allow fans of the film to experience the zombie apocalypse action thriller in virtual reality.”

Grossing over $93 million worldwide, Train to Busan is set on board a high speed train from Seoul to Busan during a zombie outbreak. In addition to this VR adaptation, the movie has spawned an animated prequel Seoul Station, and an English-language remake is also in development.
