Shovel Knight finally given EU release date

October 15, 2014 by Tom Powter

Shovel Knight, the immensely successful and popular Kickstarter game, is finally coming to Wii U and 3DS in Europe and Australia. Developer Yacht Club Games have said that the game will arrive in November.

The 2D action platformer, which has a charming retro art style and gameplay formula, has been out for a long time in North America – since June in fact – on Nintendo consoles and PC. The developer has apologised for the long wait between releases, citing localisation and translation problems.

“Thank you European and Australian region players for hanging in there with us for so long,” Yacht Club wrote. “We learned some new things and have a wealth of ideas for how we can improve on in the future. We’re truly sorry for the delay.”

Shovel Knight received critical acclaim, scoring 9.0 from IGN, while many other reviewers touted Shovel Knight’s ability to evoke the feel of retro games while being wholly original still.
