The Sixth Gun pilot fires blanks at NBC

May 9, 2013 by admin

Fans of Cullen Bunn and Brian Hurtt’s Oni Press comic book series The Sixth Gun will be disappointed to hear that NBC has opted against picking up the show for a full season order, with Deadline revealing that the network has passed on the pilot, which has been executive produced by Carlton Cuse (Lost).

According to Deadline’s report, reaction towards the pilot “started off strong but lost steam as the pilot season progressed,” while the network has also chosen to pass on several other pilots, including Bloodline, The Gates, Joe, Joe and Jane, Holding Patterns, The Secret Lives of Husbands and Wives, The Gates and Hatfields & McCoys.

With The Sixth Gun failing to make it to series, The CW’s hit superhero show Arrow could still be joined by another comic book adaptation in the Fall, with ABC likely to make a decision on Joss Whedon’s Avengers spin-off Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. in the coming days. The Hollywood Reporter has pegged the Marvel adaptation as the third most likely pilot to be picked up, behind CBS’ Beverly Hills Cop and Chuck Lorre’s new CBS sitcom Mom.
