New animated Star Wars show in development

April 6, 2013 by admin

It’s been a bit of a roller coaster ride for Star Wars fans following Disney’s purchase of Lucasfilm last year, beginning with the shock announcement that the House of Mouse was to develop a new sequel trilogy starting with Star Wars: Episode VII in 2015, in addition to several standalone Star Wars features. However, it hasn’t all been good news coming out of the galaxy far, far away, with Disney deciding to close the video game development company LucasArts earlier this week – consigning the planned Star Wars: First Assault and Star Wars 1313 games to history – while last month saw Lucasfilm bringing an end the hit animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, as well as placing Seth Green’s animated comedy series Star Wars Detours on indefinite hold (that last one’s probably not a bad thing, judging by the trailer).

Although the end of The Clone Wars means that Star Wars is currently absent from the small screen (with the long-proposed live-action series also now looking highly unlikely), Star Wars: The Clone Wars supervising director Dave Filoni has revealed that another animated show is in the pipeline, with Filoni telling RebelForceRadio that he is currently developing a new Star Wars project for Lucasfilm Animation: “At this point, I am involved in some early production discussions and exploration of what we’ll be doing with Star Wars animation in the future, which is really exciting for me and I have some friendly faces around me, of course, that are helping me on the project. So it’s a transition time, as I’ve said before, and I think it will lead to an exciting time and hopefully I’ll see things grow again.”
