PS4’s Share Play faces issues as games are blocked

November 16, 2014 by Tom Powter

FIFA 15 is the latest in what is turning into a long string of games that don’t seem to support Share Play, a heavily touted feature of Sony’s PS4 update 2.0.

Share Play was one of the biggest features coming as part of the PS4’s giant update 2.0, and it allows players to game together as though they’re sitting right next to each other. Simply invite a friend and they can take over the controller for you. However, it seems more than a few games aren’t supporting the feature.

However, it’s being reported that sometimes, when a Share Play session is initiated, one of the two participating gamers simply sees a screen that says: “Viewing the game screen that the host is currently playing is not allowed due to content restrictions in your country or region.”

This is the first time EA have blocked the feature, though they aren’t the first big name company to do so – Activision blocked Share Play on Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare and Call of Duty: Ghosts, and other big titles like Tomb Raider, Wolfenstein: The New Order and Thief all block the feature.

According to Sony, developers can choose whether or not to allow the feature. “Share Play is a system level feature enabled by System Software Update 2.0 making it available for all PS4 titles, however the option is available to developers to disable the feature according to what they feel will best benefit the consumer experience.”
