Sega developing Altered Beast, Streets of Rage, Shinobi, Rise of Nightmares and Crazy Taxi movies

December 14, 2014 by Gary Collinson

It’s already got a Sonic the Hedgehog movie in the pipeline, and now it has been announced that Sega is pushing ahead with plans to create a range of movies, television shows and digital releases based upon its video game portfolio, tapping former Break Media executive Evan Cholfin to oversee their development.

According to Variety, Sega is moving forward with several projects in Altered Beast, Streets of Rage, Shinobi, Rise of Nightmares and Crazy Taxi, which will be developed either as live-action or animation. Also included as part of the portfolio are Virtua Fighter and Golden Axe. The projects will be produced by Stories International, a joint venture between Sega and advertising agency Hakuhodo DY Group.

“With his impeccable taste and experience developing and producing entertainment in nearly every format imaginable, Evan is the unique executive to revitalize and canonize our partners’ brands by working with Hollywood to create stories that will last for centuries,” said Tomoya Suzuki, CEO of Stories.

What do you make of this slate, and which Sega video games would you like to see adapted for the screen?
