Comic Book Review – Graveyard Shift #1

January 5, 2015 by Andrew Newton

Andrew Newton reviews Graveyard Shift #1…

Graveyard Shift is the new comic book series from writer Jay Faerber (creator of Image Comics’ Near Death and Noble Causes series).  Those lovers of horror and particularly vampire horror stories will be intrigued by this storyline which sees police officer Liam start his night with what appears to be a normal raid but ends up becoming something much deeper and darker.

Despite not creating much depth to Liam’s character it more than makes up for with a fully action packed storyline.  With action pervading the story on nearly every page this is one story to keep you reading.  Plus, a trip back to vampires is a nice change from the current zombie horror phase that’s in fashion at present.

The artwork by Fran Bueno (also of Noble Causes fame) is expertly done and, as you would expect of someone who has worked with the writer for some time, manages to capture the storyline perfectly.  The drawing is the perfect compliment to a great story.

As you would expect from an action packed issue the ending leaves you wanting more.  For me, this is an excellent start to what will hopefully be another fine addition to Image Comics range.
