Is Michael Shannon in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice?

January 24, 2015 by Thomas Roach

Rumours have resurfaced again about Michael Shannon having a role in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Shannon played General Zod in Man of Steel but due to his character’s fate in that film, it was thought unlikely that he would return for the latest instalment in the series. However, Shannon was spotted alongside Henry Cavill in Chicago a few months back, and now a new report from Comic Book is claiming that General Zod will appear in the new movie, with his body serving as the basis for Doomsday.

“His corpse is stolen (or perhaps just acquired, given his military contacts in most versions of the modern mythology) by Lex Luthor and experimented on, presumably in the hopes of finding a weakness to exploit against Superman. In the course of his experimenting, we’ve been told that he “triggers the Doomsday genome,” causing the corpse to reanimate as the mindless killing machine at the center of The Death of Superman.”

Doomsday was created by a Krytonian scientist named Merton who wanted to speed up the evolutionary process. Surprise surprise, things didn’t go so well and Doomsday killed the scientist. Given Doomsday’s Kryptonian origins, it would make sense to amalgamate the characters in some form. Whilst there is no solid confirmation that Doomsday will appear in the film, there has been constant rumours about his inclusion and the theory behind Zod and Doomsday is certainly viable.

Do you think that Doomsday will be created using General Zod’s body? Will Michael Shannon appear in Batman v Superman? Let us know…

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice sees Zack Snyder directing a cast that includes returning Man of Steel stars Henry Cavill (Superman), Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Diane Lane (Martha Kent), Laurence Fishburne (Perry White) and Harry Lennix (General Swanwick) alongside Ben Affleck (Argo) as Batman, Gal Gadot (Fast & Furious 6) as Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones) as Aquaman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Jesse Eisenberg (Now You See Me) as Lex Luthor, Jeremy Irons (The Borgias) as Alfred Pennyworth and Jena Malone (Sucker Punch), Holly Hunter (The Piano), Callan Mulvey (300: Rise of an Empire), Tao Okamoto (The Wolverine) and Scoot McNairy (Argo) in as-yet-unrevealed roles.
