Jason Momoa talks Aquaman, says he wont be blond

January 29, 2015 by Gary Collinson

Jason Momoa was announced last year as playing Aquaman in the DC Cinematic Universe, and while his first appearance in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is still over a year a way, fans are keen to get any little bit of information they can about the film.

During a panel at the Sundance Film Festival, Momoa has offered up some new details, responding to a question from a fan about what we can expected by stating: “Well, things are going to be a little different. When I first went in I met with Zack [Snyder] and his idea is pretty amazing. When I went in, he told me … my jaw kind of dropped. My jaw doesn’t normally drop. What he has planned for the DC world and for … definitely for Aquaman is something that, you know… I think I was brought on for a certain reason and they’ve got some really cool plans for him. I’m really excited for everyone to see it.”

Momoa revealed that he was not supposed to be revealed as Aquaman until 2016: “Last year, when I was on this panel I was like eating chicken breasts and in training when I wasn’t supposed to talk about anything, I wasn’t supposed to say anything until 2016. So I told a bunch of people that they could punch me in the face if I was in it, so I’m going to get hit a couple times. But they finally released it. I was supposed to keep it a secret for 3 years.”

It was also brought up that Michael Shannon who played General Zod in Man of Steel was at Sundance and was seen wearing an Aquaman T-shirt. Momoa responded: “That’s awesome”. It has been rumoured that Michael Shannon will appear in Batman v Superman, possibly playing the villain Doomsday. Momoa was then asked about the rumours of Shannon being in the film, but completely ignored this question.

Finally Momoa was asked if he would have a beard and moustache to which he said, “Well, just going off what you’ve seen so far ma’am, I don’t think he is going to be blond or white. I can’t really tell you because I haven’t shot it yet. I hate to disappoint. But um, you know, I’m a little different than what those others. I hope you watch it with an open heart.”

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice sees Zack Snyder directing a cast that includes returning Man of Steel stars Henry Cavill (Superman), Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Diane Lane (Martha Kent), Laurence Fishburne (Perry White) and Harry Lennix (General Swanwick) alongside Ben Affleck (Argo) as Batman, Gal Gadot (Fast & Furious 6) as Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones) as Aquaman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Jesse Eisenberg (Now You See Me) as Lex Luthor, Jeremy Irons (The Borgias) as Alfred Pennyworth and Jena Malone (Sucker Punch), Holly Hunter (The Piano), Callan Mulvey (300: Rise of an Empire), Tao Okamoto (The Wolverine) and Scoot McNairy (Argo) in as-yet-unrevealed roles.
