Mark Millar talks Hit-Girl solo movie, Gareth Evans would have directed

January 29, 2015 by Gary Collinson

Mark Millar has been very busy of late, producing Matthew Vaughn’s new film Kingsman: The Secret Service, and being a creative consultant on The Fantastic Four reboot, both of which he spoke about exclusively to Flickering Myth last week during the UK junket for Kingsman. Now IGN has dug into another of Millar’s creations, Kick-Ass, and more specifically Hit-Girl. Rumours have previously circulated about a potential solo movie for the female ass-kicker and Millar has divulged some interesting information about the possibility of a spin-off film.

“Before ‘Kick-Ass 2‘ came out, we’d been talking about a Hit-Girl spin-off movie. We’d even talked to a director – we had a couple of calls with Gareth Evans, who I absolutely love. He’s an amazing director. But Gareth’s now busy.”

It’s certainly interesting to hear about that a Hit-Girl film was mooted before Kick-Ass 2 was released, particularly after the lacklustre critical and box-office success of the sequel – not to mention the involvement of Evans, who has proved his action chops thus far with both Raid film.

Hit-Girl herself Chloe Grace Moretz spoke about the character last summer, suggesting that any future movies would be done without her involvement:

“Sadly, I think I’m done with the character… Hit-Girl was a very cool character, but I don’t think there will be any more movies. You make these movies for the fanboys, but nowadays everyone seems to pirate them rather than watch them in the movie theatre.”

Whether or not we see another film from the Kick-Ass universe is unlikely following the sequel’s muted response, but if Millar and the producers can get Gareth Evans back on board, perhaps a spin-off isn’t too outrageous a notion.

Kingsman: The Secret Service is released tomorrow, January 29th across the UK. You can read Deputy Editor Luke Owen’s glowing review here.
