American Sniper passes $300 million worldwide

February 2, 2015 by admin

Despite the busy Super Bowl weekend, American Sniper still managed to break more records.

The movie took $31.9 million over the weekend, which is the biggest taking of a movie over Super Bowl weekend, breaking the previous record of $31.1 held by Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: The Best of Both Worlds Concert from 2008. This along with its foreign takings has pushed American Sniper to $316 million worldwide, with $248 million of that being domestic screenings.

Newcomer Project Almanac had a decent showing, bringing home $8.5 million to take third, but it wasn’t enough to unseat Paddington from the number two spot – though both of which were distant positions behind American Sniper. The bear from Peru added $8.5 million to its worldwide total of $196 million, which is pretty great considering all the negativity the film had going in.

Fellow newcomer Black or White took fourth place with $6.4 million while the rest of the top 10 remains unchanged from the previous few weeks. Bad news for Johnny Depp however has his new film Mordecai fell to sixteenth with just £1.4 million, bringing its domestic total to $6.8 million and its worldwide total to £12 million against a $60 million budget. Likewise for Michael Mann, the disappointing takings for Blackhat continue, adding just $144,000 to its dismal $14 million total against a $70 million budget.

Here’s your top 10 and their domestic totals:
