Rumoured shortlist of directors for Thor: Ragnarok

February 2, 2015 by Gary Collinson

Since Marvel’s big Phase Three announcement, much of the attention has been on the remaining Phase Two installments Avengers: Age of Ultron and Ant-Man, along with the 2016 releases Captain America: Civil War and Doctor Strange. However, we now have a few tidbits of information about one of Marvel’s 2017 releases in Thor: Ragnarok – the third film in the God of Thunder’s solo franchise.

Speaking to Digital Spy, Thor himself Chris Hemsworth revealed that at present there’s no script for the threequel, and that he has no idea about what’s in store for his character post Age of Ultron. The project is of course currently without a director too, but it seems – if rumours are to be believed – that Marvel Studios has narrowed it down to three possible candidates.

According to a poster on Reddit – who claims to have recently been laid off by Marvel – the studio is looking at Matt Reeves (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes), Gareth Edwards (Godzilla) and Adam McKay (Anchorman) – the latter of whom has provided the reworked screenplay for July’s Ant-Man.

Considering that Reeves has a Planet of the Apes sequel and Edwards a Star Wars spin-off on their upcoming slates, it seems said poster may be plucking these names out of thin air, but time will tell…

Thor: Ragnarok is set for release on July 28th 2017.
