iPhone designer takes credit for Star Wars: The Force Awakens lightsabre

February 16, 2015 by admin

Ever since the trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens launched, there has been a lot of debate about the new lightsabre displayed by Kylo Ren. Some have warmed to it and some… well… some haven’t.

Well whether you loved it or hated it, someone has taken responsibility for its design. And he is the man who designed the phone that’s in your pocket. If you’re an iPhone owner anyway.

“I once sat next to J.J. Abrams at a boozy dinner party in New York, and made what Abrams recalled as “very specific” suggestions about the design of lightsabres,” iPhone designer Jony Ive told New York Profiler. “I thought it would be interesting if it were less precise, and just a little bit more spitty. A redesigned weapon could be more analogue and more primitive, and I think, in that way, somehow more ominous.”

Ive is also responsible for the designs of the iPod and iPad.
