Comic Book Review – 13 Coins #5

February 18, 2015 by Villordsutch

Villordsutch reviews 13 Coins #5…

With Armageddon just around the corner, it’s time for John Pozner – our planet’s only hope against the coming holy skirmish – to step up and prove his worth in the eyes of the angels. But will he survive the trials ahead of him or be cast into bloody oblivion?

Every so often you find a comic that takes you back to the comics you read when you where a lot younger, when you thought that they where the greatest thing in the world; possibly the universe.  When you thought comics quite literally flicked two fingers up to civilisation and social norms and it was just you and them.  Reading 13 Coins #5 took me screaming back to those days.

This book of wonder is from Martin Brennan and Michael B Jackson (Hitman: Absolution) and what gives the comic its ultimate shine is the truly magnificent artwork by the twisted genius that is Eisner Award-winning artist Simon Bisley (Batman/Judge Dredd: Judgement on Gotham and Lobo).  Every panel is a work of art; Simon paints Brennan & Jackson’s words across the page giving us a rather macabre delight at each page turn.

Even coming into this story at issue #5 you’re not going left completely in dark with what is occurring as you can rather quickly drag together the numerous threads that are given to you within the issue – from John Pozner’s rather brutal meeting with the angel along with how he gets there, the various factions manoeuvring around the city and a quick who’s who.  Though certain elements are confusing you’ll surely pick those up if you stick with 13 Coins or if you decide on going back through the previous issues #1 – 4.

13 Coins is truly an exciting read. Titan is delivering something that you really need to have in your comic book lives so today go out and fill that gap with 13 Coins #5.

Villordsutch likes his sci-fi and looks like a tubby Viking according to his children. Visit his website and follow him on Twitter.
