Chris Hemsworth wanted for Steven Spielberg’s Robopocalypse

July 20, 2012 by admin

After making his animated debut last year with The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn, legendary filmmaker Steven Spielberg is set to follow up the historical drama double bill of War Horse and Lincoln by returning to the sci-fi genre for an adaptation of Daniel H. Wilson’s technological thriller Robopocalypse.

According to Deadline, Spielberg has found his leading man and is keen to offer the highly-coveted lead role to Australian star Chris Hemsworth. Since making his Hollywood debut in J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek, Hemsworth has enjoyed a meteoric rise to superstardom, nabbing the part of Marvel’s God of Thunder in Thor, the box-office smash The Avengers and next year’s solo sequel Thor: The Dark World, in addition to roles in the likes of The Cabin in the Woods and Snow White and the Huntsman.

Robopocalypse is set to be co-financed by DreamWorks and 20th Century Fox, with scriptwriter Drew Goddard (Cloverfield, The Cabin in the Woods) having adapted Wilson’s novel for the screen. The film will tell the story of a global robot uprising against humanity, and is due to open in the States on April 25th, 2014.
