Supergirl series finds its Cyborg Superman and Alex Danvers, adds Arrow and Flash producer

February 26, 2015 by James Garcia

CBS has added three new additions to its Supergirl series, in front of and behind the camera. According to THR, Arrow and The Flash producer Andrew Kreisberg has come on board to help produce and write the show, while Grey’s Anatomy actress Chyler Leigh and Homeland‘s David Harewood have signed on for regular roles.

Leigh will play Alexandra “Alex” Danvers, the foster sister of Supergirl herself, Kara Zor-el. The report describes her as “confident,” with a fascination for Kara’s powers that began at a young age and developed a “lifelong obsession with science that inspired her to become a doctor.”

Harewood, meanwhile, as signed on to play DC Comics Character Hank Henshaw, who readers will recognize as Cyborg Superman. There’s no telling if he’ll make that transition in the series, but in the series he’ll be a one-time CIA agent, who now runs the Department of Extra-Normal Operations, which monitors extraterrestrial threats on Earth. Something tells me he’ll have quite the interest in Kara…

Kreisberg’s addition means he’ll be reunited once more with fellow Arrow and The Flash producer Greg Berlanti, who’s developing the series along with Chuck‘s Ali Adler. Harewood and Leigh join a cast that includes Melissa Benoist (Glee) as Kara/Supergirl, Mehcad Brooks (True Blood) as Jimmy Olsen, Laura Benanti (Nashville) as Alura Zor-El, and Calista Flockhart (Ally McBeal) as Cat Grant.

Supergirl has a series commitment from CBS and is expected to air this fall.
