Deadpool 2 director on assembling X-Force for the superhero sequel

April 14, 2018 by Gary Collinson

As we’ve seen in the trailers for Deadpool 2, Ryan Reynolds Merc with a Mouth will be enlisting a few of his mercenary buddies in the superhero series as he assembles his very own X-Force team.

Speaking to USA Today, director David Leitch has been talking about the introduction of X-Force, stating that: “Building a team in the classic style of all action movies, there’s great opportunity for conflict. [Deadpool doesn’t always play well with other] but it’s not because he doesn’t want to. Maybe his fun, never-stop-talking personality is a little grating and people get tired of him. It’s not for lack of his good heart. At the end of the day, he wants to be a better person and do the right thing, and sometimes his thinking is flawed, like all of us.”

Joining Deadpool as part of the X-Force roster are Zazie Beetz’s Domino, Terry Crews’ Bedlam, Lewis Tan’s Shatterstar and Bill Skarsgard as an as-yet-unrevealed character. Presumably the surviving members will then be joined by Josh Brolin’s Cable in Drew Goddard’s X-Force movie, which is rumoured to begin shooting later this year.

After surviving a near fatal bovine attack, a disfigured cafeteria chef (Wade Wilson) struggles to fulfill his dream of becoming Mayberry’s hottest bartender while also learning to cope with his lost sense of taste. Searching to regain his spice for life, as well as a flux capacitor, Wade must battle ninjas, the yakuza, and a pack of sexually aggressive canines, as he journeys around the world to discover the importance of family, friendship, and flavor – finding a new taste for adventure and earning the coveted coffee mug title of World’s Best Lover.

Deadpool 2 sees David Leitch (John Wick) directing a cast that includes returning stars Ryan Reynolds (Wade Wilson), Morena Baccarin (Vanessa), T.J. Miller (Weasel), Brianna Hildebrand (Negasonic Teenage Warhead), Stefan Kapicic (Colossus), Leslie Uggams (Blind Al) and Karan Soni (Dopinder) alongside new additions Zazie Beetz (Atlanta) as Domino, Josh Brolin (Avengers: Infinity War) as Cable, Jack Kesy (The Strain) as the film’s villain, and Shioli Kutsuna (The Outsider), Eddie Marsan (Atomic Blonde), Julian Dennison (Hunt for the Wilderpeople) and Terry Crews (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) in as-yet-unrevealed roles. It is set for release on May 15th 2018 in the UK and May 18th in North America.
