Paramount planning Galaxy Quest TV adaptation

April 21, 2015 by James Garcia

There may not be any immediate plans to bring Star Trek back to television in the near future, but we’ve now learned that Paramount is looking to get into the sci-fi TV game with a small screen adaptation of Galaxy Quest.

The 1999 film starring Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, and Alan Rickman famously satirized Trek and became a cult classic (and is, arguably, one of the best Star Trek films ever made). Fans have been hoping for a sequel for quite some time now, and while a direct continuation of the story is destined to play out on comic book pages instead of on screen, the concept itself is ripe for a television adaptation, if handled correctly. So, by Grabthar’s hammer, we just may be in for a treat.

The film’s scribe, Robert Gordon, is expected to pen the TV version and serve as executive producer alongside original director Dean Parisot and producers Mark Johnson and Melissa Bernstein.

There are no plot details at this time, and no official word on whether it will be connected to the film or not. Presumably, it will still focus on a group of washed-up actors who were once the stars of a beloved science-fiction series, who are reunited and unwittingly sent on a real space adventure – based of course on the ones they faked week after week in their heyday.

We’ll have more news on the Galaxy Quest TV series as it becomes available. Until then, never give up, never surrender, and let us know your thoughts about this news in the comments below…
