The Last Man On Earth nabs The Sarah Silverman Program’s Dan Sterling as season 2 showrunner

May 7, 2015 by James Garcia

The Last Man on Earth recently wrapped its first season, and will return next season for its sophomore run of episodes. Fans of the show don’t just have that to get excited about, however, as THR reports that the show has picked up a new showrunner, in the form of The Daily Show, The Sarah Silverman Program, and South Park alum Dan Sterling.

Sterling will join star and creator Will Forte, and executive producers/directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who are staying on as executive producers of the show. Basically, we’re keeping the same talent that made the first season so successful, and adding another comedic voice to the room, thus turning it from a threesome to a foursome.

According to Miller, when we can expect to see that new season, and how many episodes it will entail, are still up in the air. At the moment, he, Forte and Lord are discussing the possibility of a longer season with the network:

“We’ve been talking to [Fox] about the right amount. We [don’t] want to do a full 22 [episodes], especially because Will is so instrumental in the writer’s room, and he’s on set all the time and in the edit room. It’s really difficult to keep up the level of quality we want in that many episodes without him dying (laughs). We want him to live.”

Well, at least Miller and co. understand the necessity to put quality ahead of quantity. Now, the question is: how much Tandy Miller is too much Tandy Miller? I guess we’ll find out when season two of The Last Man on Earth debuts sometime later this year or during the winter midseason.
