Alan Taylor to direct Interview with the Vampire

July 24, 2021 by Gary Collinson

Last month it was announced that the long-gestating TV adaptation of Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire is finally moving forward, with AMC granting the green light to an eight-episode first season.

Rolin Jones (The Exorcist, Perry Mason) is serving as showrunner on the series, and now comes word that Thor: The Dark World and Terminator: Genisys helmer Alan Taylor has signed on to direct the first two episodes.

In addition to his feature film work, Taylor has extensive small screen experience, with credits on the likes of Mad Men, The Sopranos, Game of Thrones, Deadwood, Boardwalk Empire, Lost and The West Wing. He has also recently directed the upcoming Sopranos prequel film The Many Saints of Newark.

“Alan Taylor is a legendary director and someone we have real history with, going back to the first episode of Mad Men, an hour of exquisitely crafted television that propelled our company in a new direction to become a force in original programming,” said Dan McDermott, president of original programming for AMC Networks and AMC Studios. “We are assembling a true dream team of talent on Interview with the Vampire, from Rolin Jones to Mark Johnson and now with the addition of Alan, a director with a body of work that could basically break IMDb, not to mention Anne Rice’s extraordinary stories and characters, which have captivated so many millions of fans from around the world. We are so excited to be where we are on this series, and there is so much more to come.”

Jones, Taylor and Mark Johnson are serving as executive producers on the series alongside Anne Rice and her son Christopher Rice. AMC is targeting a 2022 premiere date.
