Alex Garland says there are serious discussions about 28 Months Later

January 15, 2015 by Gary Collinson

During a promotional interview for his upcoming directorial debut Ex Machina, Alex Garland spoke about 28 Months Later, the long-rumoured follow-up to 28 Days Later and its sequel 28 Weeks Later, stating that discussions are turning serious

“We’ve just started talking about it seriously” Garland tells IGN. “We’ve got an idea. Danny Boyle and producer Andrew Macdonald and I have been having quite serious conversations about it so it is a possibility. It’s complicated. There’s a whole bunch of reasons why it’s complicated, which are boring so I won’t go into, but there’s a possibility… It’s more likely to be 28 Months Later than 28 Years. 28 Years gives you one more place to go. 28 Decades is probably taking the piss”

Released in 2002, Danny Boyle’s 28 Days Later was a critical and commercial success, and is regarded as one of the finest zombie movies of all-time. It was followed by the 2007 sequel 28 Weeks Later, which was directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo.
