Altered Carbon cancelled by Netflix after two seasons

August 26, 2020 by Ricky Church

After two seasons, Netflix has decided to cancel Altered Carbon. The series was based on the 2002 novel of the same name by Richard K. Morgan.

Altered Carbon first premiered on Netflix in 2018 with Joel Kinnaman (The Suicide Squad) in the lead role as Takeshi Kovacs in the sci-fi series that saw humanity able to download their memories and consciousnesses into another body. For the second season, Anthony Mackie (Falcon and Winter Soldier) took over the role.

According to Deadline, Netflix decided to cancel the series back in April, just a few weeks after the second season and its anime spin-off Altered Carbon: Resleeved premiered. The cancellation does not have anything to do with the current health crisis and the number of TV productions that have been shut down because of it, but due to the series’ low viewership and the cost of renewing for a third season.

Are you upset Netflix decided to cancel Altered Carbon? Did you want to see more from the series? Let us know on our social media channels at @flickeringmyth!

Season Two of the sophisticated and compelling sci-fi drama finds Takeshi Kovacs (Anthony Mackie), the lone surviving soldier of a group of elite interstellar warriors, continuing his centuries old quest to find his lost love Quellcrist Falconer (Renée Elise Goldsberry). After decades of planet-hopping and searching the galaxy, Kovacs finds himself recruited back to his home planet of Harlan’s World with the promise of finding Quell. Haunted by his past and responsible for investigating a series of brutal murders, Kovacs is stunned to discover his new mission to solve the crime and his pursuit to find Quell are one and the same. With the help of his loyal A.I. Poe (Chris Conner), Kovacs must now partner with new allies to outwit his enemies and find the truth: Who is Quellcrist Falconer?
