AMC pushes back the premiere of The Walking Dead: World Beyond to “later this year”

March 23, 2020 by Gary Collinson

It seems its not just movies that are having their release dates pushed back due to the coronavirus, as AMC has announced that it has delayed the premiere of its upcoming Walking Dead spinoff series The Walking Dead: World Beyond.

The two-season limited series was originally slated to begin next month, but will now premiere on an unspecified date later in the year.

The Walking Dead: World Beyond is moving its premiere date from Sunday April 12th to later this year.

World Beyond had already wrapped filming prior to the coronavirus outbreak, although post-production on the final few episodes has been affected due to various company closures.

However, production on the sixth season Fear the Walking Dead is currently on hold with less than half of its episodes shot, while The Walking Dead season 11 was due to begin filming at the start of May but has been pushed back for at least three weeks.

As a result, AMC is presumably looking to keep World Beyond in reserve for later in the year in case any further delays to the other shows see them pushed back into late 2020 or even early 2021.

The Walking Dead: World Beyond expands the universe of The Walking Dead, delving into a new mythology and story that follows the first generation raised in a surviving civilization of the post-apocalyptic world. Two sisters along with two friends leave a place of safety and comfort to brave dangers, known and unknown, living and undead on an important quest.  Pursued by those who wish to protect them and those who wish to harm them, a tale of growing up and transformation unfurls across dangerous terrain, challenging everything they know about the world, themselves and each other.  Some will become heroes.  Some will become villains.  But all of them will find the truths they seek.

Created by Scott M. Gimple and showrunner Matt Negrete, The Walking Dead: World Beyond features a cast that includes Aliyah Royale as Iris, Alexa Mansour as Hope, Annet Mahendru as Huck, Nicolas Cantu as Elton, Hal Cumpston as Silas, Nico Tortorella as Felix, Julia Ormond as Elizabeth, Natalie Gold as Lyla, Al Calderon as Barca, Scott Adsit as Tony and Ted Sutherland as Percy.
