Amy Adams hasn’t been approached about Lois Lane return

November 18, 2022 by EJ Moreno

When Henry Cavill announced his return to Superman, many wondered what that meant for his films and the characters included.

It’s obvious Cavill’s take on the character made quite the splash upon his debut, but someone else from Man of Steel and the other early DCEU entries also played a critical role. Amy Adams played Lois Lane, and no one can deny how important her character felt to the overall DC universe, especially when it came to motivating Cavill’s Clark Kent and Superman.

Speaking with Variety, Adams seemed enthusiastic about the news of Cavill’s return as the Man of Steel. “Isn’t it exciting?… I’m thrilled for him. He’s such a wonderful Superman, so I’m very excited for him,” says Adams.

When Variety asked about her potential return to DC Studios and the role of Lois Lane, Adams said no one has reached out to her yet but will be okay with returning or seeing a new person as Superman’s love interest.

“They haven’t spoken to me about it. If it’s me, great. If it’s somebody else, the role of Lois has been filled by so many wonderful actresses in the past, so I’ll support whatever direction they go.”

Adams played Lois Lane in three different DCEU outings, starting the role in Man of Steel, appearing as a central figure in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and a supporting appearance in Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Her role played a crucial role in Superman’s story, being the reason he sacrifices himself to save Earth and serving as the motivator for a resurrected Clark Kent to join the fledgling Justice League.

While Adams is 100% correct that another actress can easily take on the role, the impact her particular take on Lois Lane has made can’t be overstated. Without her, the early start of Cavill’s Superman would have no heart and soul. Let’s hope James Gunn’s new vision for DC and Superman can include Adams’ Lois Lane.

You can see Amy Adams next in Disenchanted, the long-awaited sequel to the fan-favorite Enchanted. The film debuts this coming weekend on Disney+ and sees Adams joined by Maya Rudolph and a returning Patrick Dempsey. Read our review here.
