Amy Ryan joins Colin Farrell and Kirby Howell-Baptiste in detective series Sugar

August 20, 2022 by Ricky Church

The upcoming Apple TV+ detective series Sugar has added Amy Ryan (Only Murders in the Building) to its cast, Variety reports. She joins Colin Farrell (The Batman) and Kirby Howell-Baptiste (The Sandman) in the series.

There is not much known about Sugar as details are being kept under wraps, but is it described as “a genre-bending contemporary take on the private detective story set in Los Angeles.”

Sugar is written by Mike Protosevich (Oldboy) with Farrell also serving as an executive producer alongside Fernando Meirelles (City of God), who will also direct, and Genre Films’ Simon Kinberg and Audrey Chon as well as Scott Greenberg and Chip Vucelich.

This marks a return for all three actors to the detective mystery genre. Ryan is known for her role in HBO’s groundbreaking The Wire as well as Gone Baby Gone, the latter of which she was nominated for an Academy Award as Best Supporting Actress. Farrell starred in the second season of HBO’s anthology True Detective while Howelle-Baptiste had a recurring role in the limited series revival of Veronica Mars.
