Andre Holland is Black Panther Party leader Huey P. Newton in Apple TV+’s The Big Cigar trailer

April 24, 2024 by Amie Cranswick

Apple TV+ has debuted a trailer for the limited biographical drama series The Big Cigar.

The series tells the incredible true story of Black Panther Party leader Huey P. Newton’s (André Holland) escape to Cuba as he fled from the FBI with the help of famed producer Bert Schneider (Alessandro Nivola). Watch the trailer below…

Based on the magazine article of the same name by Joshuah Bearman (“Argo”), who also serves as executive producer, “The Big Cigar” tells the incredible true story of Hollywood revolution meeting social revolution. It’s a wild caper about Black Panther founder Huey P. Newton escaping from the FBI to Cuba with the assistance of famed producer Bert Schneider in an impossibly elaborate plan – involving a fake movie production – that goes wrong every way it possibly can.

Joining Holland and Nivola in the cast are Tiffany Boone, PJ Byrne, Marc Menchaca, Moses Ingram, Rebecca Dalton, Olli Haaskivi, Jordane Christie, and Glynn Turman.

The Big Cigar premieres on Apple TV+ on May 17th.
