Anthony Carrigan joins Superman: Legacy as Metamorpho

July 12, 2023 by EJ Moreno

The Superman: Legacy castings are still coming in, and now the film will have its very own Metamorpho.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the story that Anthony Carrigan will join the upcoming James Gunn-directed Superman film, which will kick off the new era for DC Studios. The role is described as “a classic DC character,” with the actor playing Metamorpho, AKA archeologist-turned-hero Rex Mason.

Carrigan is best known for his time on Barry, where he served as the breakout star of the award-winning series; he’s earned three Emmy nominations in the outstanding supporting actor in a comedy series during its run. In 2020, he starred alongside Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter in 2020’s Bill & Ted Face the Music and starred in the 2021 comedic drama Fatherhood.

Per THR, “Metamorpho was created by Bob Haney and Ramona Fradon in 1965 and is a man who can transmutate elements in his body into various forms, taking those properties on as powers. After first being an archeologist, his abilities set him on the path of heroism. He later became a detective and a founding member of the supergroup known as the Outsiders.”

Carrigan joins the recently cast Isabela Merced, Edi Gathegi, and Nathan Fillion in Superman: Legacy. The film is set to be led by David Corenswet, recently cast as Superman alongside Rachel Brosnahan, who will star as Lois Lane.

Little is known about the project, but reports claim we will see Superman face off with The Authority in a world already familiar with superheroes. The film will also introduce a new Lex Luthor, which Gunn is currently eyeing actors for as we speak.

The official synopsis states Superman: Legacy “tells the story of Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice, and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”

Superman: Legacy is scheduled to open in theaters on July 11th, 2025.
