Arrow’s David Ramsey on Green Lantern rumours, says John Diggle will get a mask in season 4

May 15, 2015 by Gary Collinson

Back in February, Arrow star David Ramsey stoked the speculation linking his character John Diggle to that of John Stewart, a.k.a. Green Lantern by stating that “serious discussions” had taken place behind the scenes about the possibility. Executive producer Marc Guggenheim subsequently played down the talk, but that hasn’t stopped Ramsey from being asked once more about the rumours during an interview with Comic Book.

“Everyone wants to talk about John Stewart,” says Ramsey. “Is it ‘John Stewart Diggle?’ or ‘John Diggle Stewart?’ or whatever, and will he be Green Lantern? Marc Guggenheim has said publicly that it’s not the way to go right now. But people are still talking about it… I think they’ve taken great strides to making John Diggle part of the lexicon, and that’s an important thing. I don’t think you want to abandon that. I think there’s something very normal about him that’s part of the appeal. I think if you put a mask on him as part of the Green Lantern Corps, and that’s wonderful by the way – John Stewart is a wonderful character – but you lose some of that. You lose part of the ‘everyguy’ character.”

So, it looks like we won’t be seeing Diggle donning the ring as Green Lantern, but that doesn’t mean he won’t be taking on a disguise for his crime-fighting exploits, with Ramsey responding to a question about the chances of him getting a mask by stating that: “I do think you need some kind of concealment. And to that end, they are working on something. You will see something for Diggle next year. Season 4. You will.”

Arrow will return to The CW in the Fall. Follow all our coverage here.
