Avengers: Infinity War book reveals fate of Erik Selvig and Darcy, teases a new foe for the MCU

November 28, 2018 by Amie Cranswick

With Thanos succeeding in his goal to eradicate half of all life in the Marvel Cinematic Universe at the conclusion of Avengers: Infinity War, it remains to be seen just what the landscape of the MCU looks like post-Snap.

We did of course witness the “deaths” of many of our heroes in the movie itself, with Black Panther, Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, Winter Soldier, Falcon, Scarlet Witch, Star-Lord, Groot, Drax, Mantis, Nick Fury and Maria Hill all turning to ash at the hands (or rather fingers) of the Mad Titan.

As for the wealth of supporting characters in the MCU however, while directors Anthony and Joe Russo have previously addressed the fate of several (including the likes of Lady Sif, Betty Ross, Aunt May and Howard the Duck), there are many who remain unaccounted for.

Well, fans of Stellan Skarsgard’s Erik Selvig and Kat Dennings’ Darcy can now breathe a sigh of relief, as thanks to the new book Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War: The Cosmic Quest, Vol. 2: Aftermath from writer Brandon T. Snider, we’ve learned that both characters survived The Snappening and are in fact investigating the cause of the devastation.

Here’s the synopsis for the book…

A deadly threat emerged from the cosmos – and it was fulfilled. In the wake of Thanos’ horrifying success, the people of Earth are left reeling in despair and confusion. Without any logical explanation for the blip-out event, those remaining must pick up the pieces.

Doctor Erik Selvig and his associate Darcy Lewis are determined to find and understand the cause of the devastation. With a team of friends both old and new, they embark on a pursuit of knowledge, eager to discover the links between their own pasts and the stones that decimated half of humanity – the Infinity Stones. Little do they know that a new foe who threatens to destroy them all is looming…

Those final comments about a new foe are also particularly interesting, especially considering there have been whispers that Thanos may not turn out to be the only threat Earth’s Mightiest Heroes are faced with in Avengers 4.
