Ben Affleck in talks to direct Casey Affleck in Afghanistan war movie Red Platoon

August 30, 2017 by Amie Cranswick

Having stepped away from the director’s chair on Warner’s DC solo movie The Batman, it looks like Ben Affleck is set to get back behind the camera for the Afghanistan war movie Red Platoon, according to The Tracking Board.

The movie is being produced by Sony, Immersive Pictures and Smokehouse Pictures, and is based on the memoirs of Clinton Romesha. It tells the story of 2009’s Battle of Kamdesh, where over 300 Taliban fighters launched a raid on the the U.S.’ Outpost Keating, with Staff Sgt. Romesha leading a counterattack which ultimately saved dozens of American lives. He received the Congressional Medal of Honor for his actions.

The site reports that Affleck’s brother, Oscar-winner Casey Affleck, is wanted for the lead role of Staff Sgt. Romesha, which would mark the brothers’ first collaboration since Ben’s 2007 directorial debut Gone Baby Gone.
