Benedict Cumberbatch replacing Tom Hardy in Blood on Snow

February 16, 2025 by EJ Moreno

Benedict Cumberbatch has joined Blood on Snow with THR breaking the news that the actor will step into the role once set for Tom Hardy.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson leads No Time To Die director Cary Fukunaga’s crime thriller alongside Cumberbatch, Eva Green, Emma Laird, and Ben Mendelsohn. Taylor-Johnson stars as a hitman/fixer named Olav, who is hired by his mob boss to kill the man’s cheating wife. When Olav convinces himself he’s fallen in love with the wife and doesn’t kill her, it sets off a chain of events with tragic consequences that threaten a bloody mob war.

Tom Hardy was previously attached to star and produce but has stepped away due to scheduling issues. While yet to be confirmed, Cumberbatch is said to be taking on Hardy’s role as a rival mob boss named the Fisherman.

As previously reported, the film is based on the novel by Jo Nesbo, who wrote the script with Ben Powers. THR adds that Mike Larocca and Michael Schaefer of Department M will produce and fully finance the feature. Fukunaga, Nesbo, Tracey Seaward, Niclas Salomonsson, and Dean Baker are also producing.

Blood on Snow will begin production at the end of the month, shooting in Latvia.
