Bill Murray says he has joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania role

October 27, 2021 by Matt Rodgers

Marvel are on the verge of pushing on with Phase Four of their cinematic universe with the release Chloe Zhao’s Eternals (read our ★★★★ review here), but it appears the more groundbreaking developments have arrived in the form of a characteristically off-the-cuff reveal by Bill Murray that he has already filmed a part in an upcoming MCU movie.

During an interview with the German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine (via Deadline), the Ghostbusters icon let slip “You know, recently I made a Marvel movie.” Murray continued adding that he wouldn’t reveal the film in question, but dropped enough clues to be able to piece together that he will make an appearance in Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania.

Murray was responding to a question about why he chooses to work with certain directors and replied regarding the Marvel movie, saying “I got to know the director – and really liked him very much. He was funny, humble, everything you want from a director. He was funny, humble, everything you want from a director. And with the cheerleader story Bring It On he made a movie years ago which I think is damn good. So I agreed, although I’m not interested in these huge comic book adaptations as an actor otherwise…Let’s put it this way: the director is a good guy, and now I’ve at least tried out what it’s like to shoot a Marvel movie.”

The big clue there is obviously the fact that Bring It On director Peyton Reed is completing his Marvel trilogy of films with Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania which also stars Paul Rudd (Scott Lang/Ant-Man), Evangeline Lilly (Hope Van Dyne/The Wasp), Michael Douglas (Hank Pym), Michelle Pfeiffer (Janet Van Dyne), and Corey Stoll (Darren Cross/Yellowjacket) along with MCU new additions Kathryn Newton (Freaky) as Cassie Lang and Jonathan Majors (Lovecraft Country) as Kang the Conqueror.

Is it news more exciting than the rumoured return of Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire in Spider-Man: No Way Home? Let us know what you think about Murray’s reveal by heading to our social channels @FlickeringMyth…

Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania is set for release on February 17th 2023.
