Black Mirror set for new 12 episode run on Netflix

September 25, 2015 by Tom Beasley

Charlie Brooker’s dystopian sci-fi series Black Mirror has been officially picked up by streaming service Netflix for a 12 episode run, with Brooker and executive producer Annabel Jones to serve as showrunners.

The news, revealed in The Hollywood Reporter, confirms a Netflix deal that was first rumoured earlier this month.

Netflix will create 12 episodes of the technological satire, with each focusing on a standalone story.

Brooker has already started writing the episodes, which will go in front of cameras at the end of this year in the UK.

“It’s all very exciting – a whole new bunch of Black Mirror episodes on the most fitting platform imaginable,” said Brooker.

He said: “Netflix connects us with a global audience so that we can create bigger, stranger, more international and diverse stories than before, whilst maintaining that Black Mirror feel.”

The news comes soon after Black Mirror received media attention for its opening episode The National Anthem, which suddenly gained real world relevance after surprising allegations arose about British Prime Minister David Cameron.

It is as yet unclear whether the episodes will premiere in Netflix’s standard all-at-once style or via the weekly release the show employed on TV.
