Blade Runner 2049 early reactions label the film a “masterpiece”

September 27, 2017 by Samuel Brace

The early reactions to Blade Runner 2049 are in and they are overwhelmingly good.

Sequel plans to the classic Ridley Scott sci-film were met with a healthy dose of scepticism initially, but as time went on, and with the trust so many have in director of the film Denis Villeneuve, a more optimistic outlook was quickly adopted.

And now it seems that any remaining fears can be put to bed as those critics lucky enough to see the film early have reported back with tremendous praise for the movie, Villeneuve, and legendary cinematographer Roger Deakins.

The founder of Fandango.com, Erik Davis, tweeting that the film was a “masterpiece” and others have even compared it favourably to the original movie.

BLADE RUNNER 2049 is sci-fi masterpiece; the kind of deep-cut genre film we don't see anymore. Visually mind blowing, absolutely fantastic pic.twitter.com/A1d6ohmj3s

The response to Deakin’s cinematography is particularly glowing:

So Roger Deakins may land his Oscar at last after seeing Blade Runner 2049, which is STUNNINGLY beautiful.

.@BladeRunner 2049 is phenomenal. Visually mind-blowing sci-fi w/ noir roots shining through in a tight, twisty mystery. Best of 2017 so far pic.twitter.com/kT4ZzWWlOQ
