Blumhouse aims to acquire Saw franchise

June 7, 2025 by EJ Moreno

Is Blumhouse ready to play the games of Jigsaw? If reports are correct, Saw is heading to the massive horror company.

Reports have Blumhouse in talks to buy the Saw franchise from Twisted Pictures. If this were to happen, James Wan, who directed the first movie, would get an ownership stake in the now-iconic franchise he created. Blumhouse, which Jason Blum runs, merged with Wan’s Atomic Monster in early January 2024.

Saw became one of the most profitable horror movies of all time, as it was made for only $1.2 million, opened to $18.2 million domestically, and earned $104 million worldwide. From there, it has spawned a massive horror franchise that encompasses 10 movies as well as merchandizing, video games, and more.

Saw X was the most recent outing in the franchise, becoming one of the most successful of the entire series. An eleventh film was in the works, but it eventually stalled out.

If this story sounds familiar, it’s because the talks between Blumhouse and Twisted began last year but broke down earlier this year, with reports indicating that the price point was a key issue.

With the future of Saw in the air, where do you want to see the gory franchise go next? Share your thoughts by reaching out to Flickering Myth’s social channels…
