Bond 25 to miss 2019 release date, Danny Boyle’s exit reportedly due to casting dispute

August 24, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Earlier in the week it was announced that Danny Boyle has vacated the director’s chair on Bond 25 due to “creative differences”, and now comes word from The Hollywood Reporter that Daniel Craig’s fifth and final outing will no longer hit its planned November 2019 release date.

The site goes on to report that it is possible that Bond 25 won’t open until late 2020, given that there had already been internal discussions about pushing the film back until early 2020 even while Boyle remained attached.

Meanwhile, according to The Telegraph, the rift between Boyle and the film’s producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli and star Daniel Craig is said to have concerned the casting of a Russian villain. Apparently, Tomasz Kot (Cold War) was being eyed for the role, and this proved to be a sticking point between the two parties.

At this point, it’s unclear whether EON intends on using John Hodge’s script, which was written specifically for his frequent collaborator Boyle, or if they will revert to the original Bond 25 script from 007 veterans Neal Purvis and Robert Wade. However, whichever way they do decide to go, the incoming director will surely want to make their own mark on the script and story, meaning that it is highly unlikely that cameras will start rolling until well into the New Year.
