June 19, 2025 by Andrew Newton

After more than 250 updates, dozens of tweaks and a plethora of gameplay improvements, the brutal PvPvE open-world survival sim Scum has left Early Access and is now available in v1.0 on Steam. Scum is a deadly fight for survival that challenges players to survive on an island filled with thugs, criminals and murderers. This form of punishment that players must endure is a televised spectacle of a supermax prison and player’s survival is their entertainment.

With deeply complex survival mechanics, players will build weapons, tools and shelters, and manage their bodies requirements of nutrition, body temperature and stamina.

The new 1.0 update brings a map rework to the game, featuring a graphic overhaul. There have also been improvements to performance and the addition of more immersive environments. Players will also see the arrival of different transport on the island, including the Seaplane, Tractor and Sports Bike. The introduction of armed NPCs will add a new threat to players, with possible new rewards to gain.

Scum features:

  • Loot, craft, evade and eliminate all threats.
  • Battle undead prisoners, deadly mechs and rival players.
