CBS’ True Lies pilot casts Ginger Gonzaga, Omar Miller, Erica Hernandez and Mike O’Gorman

October 1, 2021 by Ricky Church

CBS has announced the addition of several actors to its upcoming series adaptation of James Cameron’s 1994 spy thriller comedy True Lies. Joining Steve Howey (Shameless) in the series pilot is Ginger Gonzaga (Kidding), Omar Miller (Ballers), Erica Hernandez (Bridge and Tunnel) and Mike O’Gorman (Vice Principals).

The synopsis for the pilot follows the same basic plot of the film as Howey and Gonzaga take on Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jamie Lee Curtis’ roles as Harry and Helen Tasker: “Shocked to discover that her bland and unremarkable computer consultant husband (Howey) is a skilled international spy, an unfulfilled suburban housewife (Gonzaga) is propelled into a life of danger and adventure when she’s recruited to work alongside him to save the world as they try to revitalize their passionless marriage.”

Gonzaga will play Helen, “Harry’s supportive wife, mother of two teenage kids and a linguistics professor who is getting annoyed by Harry’s constant business trips away from home. Increasingly angered, she feels as if she’s been robbed of the life she once envisioned for herself. Thrilled when Harry invites her along for a trip to Paris, Helen is in for a rude shock when she sees a very different side to her husband.”

Miller will play Gib, “the logistics guy for the group. It’s his job to make sure everyone knows their duties and the missions go smoothly. Dry-witted but all business, he shows up unexpectedly at a barbecue at Harry’s home to discuss a dangerous new assignment, while also enjoying the hors d’oeuvres.”

Hernandez will portray Maria, “another of the operatives working with Harry. Tough and capable, she is a cool-headed, first class spy. But she never misses a chance to get in a dig at Luther’s expense, reminding him of something that went down between them while on a mission in Berlin”.

O’Gorman is Luther. “Also posing as a computer salesman, O’Gorman is an undercover operative who works with Harry at the Omega Sector. Smoothly confident with a dry wit, he’s good at his job, despite some tension between himself and fellow operative, Maria. Luther fears that Harry being married could cause some issues and that’s why operatives, as a rule, remain single.”

True Lies is being adapted to TV by Burn Notice creator Matt Nix with Cameron and McG will executive produce. Nix is writing the pilot which will be directed by Anthony Hemingway (Shameless).
