Charlie Cox is glad Daredevil ended before it could “descend into lunacy”

January 23, 2019 by Samuel Brace

Charlie Cox says that in a weird way he is glad Daredevil was cancelled before the show could “descend into lunacy”.

Of course, many people were saddened by the news of Daredevil’s cancellation by Netflix, and this includes the cast and crew of the show itself. Star Charlie Cox has been particularly vocal about it, supporting the online fan petition and expressing his anger.

But, in a similar manner to his co-star Deborah Ann Woll, Cox has found a silver lining in the show’s cancellation. Speaking to Collider, the actor said: “In the interest of being positive and looking forward, I’m also grateful that we got to end on such a high. Sometimes with these genre shows, when you’re making so much content – I’ve already made 50-something hours of this character – it’s very hard to maintain quality, over that long of a period. So, in a weird way, I’m also grateful that we did a quality show, from start to finish, that didn’t descend into lunacy.”

It’s certainly true that too many shows outstay their welcome and become a shadow of their former selves in later seasons. And with Daredevil season three being such a triumph, it’s definitely not a bad way to end things. What do you think? Can you understand where Cox is coming from? Missing for months, Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) reemerges a broken man, putting into question his future as both vigilante Daredevil and lawyer Matthew Murdock. But when his archenemy Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) is released from prison, Matt must choose between hiding from the world or embracing his destiny as a hero.

Season three of Daredevil sees Charlie Cox (Matt Murdock/Daredevil), Deborah Ann Woll (Karen Page), Elden Henson (Foggy Nelson) and Vincent D’Onofrio (Wilson Fisk/The Kingpin) all returning to the cast alongside new additions Joanne Whalley (Wolf Hall) as Sister Maggie and Wilson Bethel (Hart of Dixie) as Bullseye.
