Charlize Theron confirms that Atomic Blonde sequel is in development

April 16, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Charlize Theron has confirmed that she plans to reprise the role of MI6 agent Lorraine Broughton for a follow-up to last year’s action thriller Atomic Blonde, with the actress revealing at the San Francisco Film Festival this past weekend that “we’re working on a sequel”.

Based on the graphic novel The Coldest City, Atomic Blonde was directed by David Leitch (John Wick, Deadpool 2) and saw Theron as an MI6 agent sent to Berlin to investigate the murder of a fellow agent and recover a missing list of double agents. The film scored positive reviews, and grossed close to $100 million worldwide.

Director Leitch had previously revealed to Screen Rant that they were hoping to launch a franchise, stating that: “I think all the creative involved want to do more adventures with Lorraine, and we’re just hoping that the audience responds. I think it’s all, at the end of the day, show business, so if people want to come out and see this movie and support the female protagonist and action movies with a woman lead, then maybe we’ll get to make more of these. That’s the hope, man.”

Are you excited about the prospect of an Atomic Blonde sequel? Let us know in the comments below…

The crown jewel of Her Majesty’s Secret Intelligence Service, Agent Lorraine Broughton (Charlize Theron) is equal parts spycraft, sensuality and savagery, willing to deploy any of her skills to stay alive on her impossible mission.  Sent alone into Berlin to deliver a priceless dossier out of the destabilized city, she partners with embedded station chief David Percival (James McAvoy) to navigate her way through the deadliest game of spies.
